THE 11th HOUR

TNL is very happy to announce that the Monday Night Movies series is adding a film for the month of October. In partnership with the Western Environment Centre, www.wecnl.ca, we are pleased to present the film The 11th Hour. This documentary brings the issue of global warming to the forefront with the help of its narrator, writer and producer, Leonardo DiCaprio. The 11th Hour is a look at the state of the global environment including visionary and practical solutions for restoring the planet's ecosystems.
The 11th Hour will screen at 7 pm on Monday, October 22 at the Majestic Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Memberships to the WEC will also be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will go to support environmental initiatives in our community! Please join us for this important film.

TNL kicks off its 2007-08 season of Monday Night movies on Monday, September 24 at 6.30 pm with the ever-controversial Michael Moore and his latest film SICKO - a scathing attack of the US Health Care System. Writer/producer Michael Moore interviews Americans who have been denied treatment by their health care insurance companies -- companies who sacrifice essential health services in order to maximize profits. The consequences for the individual subscribers range from bankruptcy to the unnecessary deaths of loved ones. Moore also takes a look at other Health Care systems in the world, including Canada.

SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL (18A)

TNL is proud to present the Canadian film SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL as its November Monday Night Movie. SHAKE HANDS tells the story of Lt.-Gen. Romeo Dallaire who was sent to the war torn country of Rwanda during its genocidal civil war. This film stars Canadian actor Roy Dupuis as Dallaire in a performance that critics are calling "impressive and intense". SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL will screen on Monday November 19 (please note the date!!!) at 6.30 at the Majestic Theatre.
SWEENEY TODD-THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (R)

TNL is pleased to announce that SWEENEY TODD-THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (R) will be the Monday Night Movie for March. Based on the hit Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim, SWEENEY TODD tells the story of Benjamin Barker, now Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp), who returns after being incarcerated for crimes he didn't commit. His lust for revenge is aided by one Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter) who sells 'the worst pies in London'. When he finds that his wife is dead and his daughter in the hands of the evil Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman), Sweeney goes on a murderous rampage on all London. But not one man killed, nor ten thousands men can satisfy Sweeney's lust for revenge on those who've caused his years of pain.
This Oscar winning film also nabbed Johnny Depp a nomination for Best Actor and won him a Golden Globe for his performance. SWEENEY TODD will screen on Monday March 31 at 6.30 pm at the Majestic Theatre.
THE SAVAGES

TNL is pleased to announce that THE SAVAGES will be the April Monday Night Movie. Jon and Wendy Savage (Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney) are two siblings who have spent their adult years trying to put the past behavior of their father, Lenny, behind them. Suddenly, a call comes in that Lenny's girlfriend, Doris, has died, he cannot care for himself and Doris' family is dumping him on his children. Despite the fact Jon and Wendy have not spoken to Lenny for twenty years and he is even more loathsome than ever, the Savage siblings feel obliged to take care of him.
This movie has won rave reviews for its sensitivity, compassion, and humour. Hoffman and Linney shine in their roles as siblings. THE SAVAGES received two Oscar nominations this year. THE SAVAGES is rated R and will screen at the Majestic Theatre on Monday April 21 at 6.30 pm (please note the date!!) Doors will open at 6.15.
WAITRESS (PG-13)

The TNL movie for October will be the hit indie film WAITRESS starring Kerri Russell and Andy Griffith. This award winning film tells the story of Jenna (Russell), a small-town waitress at Joe's Diner, who has a great knack at making delicious pies. However, Jenna is in an unhappy marriage to her controlling and immature husband. Jenna suddenly finds her life has taken an unexpected turn when she discovers she's pregnant. But the unhappy pregnancy changes Jenna's life as she becomes determined to win the $25,000 pie contest prize money. Her handsome, and married, gynecologist, gives her confidence and an attempt at happiness.
Director and writer Adrienne Shelly was murdered shortly after this film was released. This film, however, is a testament to her ability and will always be a great tribute to her.
WAITRESS will screen at the Majestic Theatre on Monday, Oct 29 at 7 pm.

BREAKFAST WITH SCOT

TNL is pleased to kick off its winter season of Monday Night Movies with the indie comedy BREAKFAST WITH SCOT. Adapted from the novel by Michael Downing, BREAKFAST WITH SCOT is a touching comedy that tells the story of a very 'straight' gay couple, Eric (TomCavanagh from TV's "ED"), an ex-NHL hockey player-turned-sportscaster and Sam (Ben Shenkman), a lawyer,
who end up with temporary custody of recently orphaned Scot, (Noah Bernett)
an 11-year-old boy who turns out to be a total sissy. Officially sanctioned by the NHL and the Toronto Maple Leafs, BREAKFAST WITH SCOT represents the first time a professional sports league has allowed their logo and uniforms to be used in a gay-themed movie. BREAKFAST WITH SCOT also features some very well known Canadian faces - Fiona Reid, Graham Greene, Sheila McCarthy, and Megan Follows. BREAKFAST WITH SCOT will screen at the Majestic Theatre on Monday January 28 at 7 pm

(LA Times). It will screen at the Majestic Theatre on Monday Feb 25 at 6.30 pm. Please note that this film is in French with English sub-titles.
PERSEPOLIS (PG-13)

In 1970s Iran, Marjane 'Marji' Statrapi watches events through her young eyes and her idealistic family of a long dream being fulfilled of the hated Shah's defeat in the Iranian Revolution of 1979. However as Marji grows up, she witnesses first hand how the new Iran has become a repressive tyranny on its own. Her parents send her abroad to Vienna to study for a better life. However, this change proves an equally difficult trial. Even when she returns home, Marji finds that both she and homeland have changed too much and the young woman and her loving family must decide where she truly belongs. The winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes and nominated for Best Animated movie at the 2008 Oscars, PERSEPOLIS will screen at the Majestic Theatre on Monday May 26 at 7 pm. Doors will open at 6.15 pm.
