Evocative and layered story of a mother and two daughters from the southwest of England as they prepare for their first winter in Newfoundland in the 1850s. As the winds howl and the snow flies they must make a monumental decision; take the last ship back to the poverty and depravation they left behind in England or stay and attempt to weather a Newfoundland winter.
