Saudade & ALTAR
Saudade is a collection of people’s stories, and the playwright’s memories. Going from melancholy to happiness, joy and sorrow. Vanessa explores the idea of longing, inviting the audience to experience what saudade means.
Eugenio, a newcomer to St. John’s from Mexico, experiences deep love and heartbreak when his boyfriend inexplicably “ghosts” him. Looking to the holiday Día de Muertos and his father’s previous paranormal experiences, Eugenio builds an altar, hoping to summon his boyfriend’s “ghost” to sort out the end of their relationship once and for all. Will setting up an altar be enough for Eugenio to forgive, forget, and love again?
